Croatia is the country of a thousand islands, rich history, Mediterranean vegetation and mild climate and one of the best ways to explore it is by bicycle.

This cycling tour starts on the stunning Peljesac Peninsula for two full days including Korcula Island, then down to Ston and finally to Dubrovnik and the beautiful Konavle Valley. 

During the 6 (or 7) full days you will have the opportunity to explore these incredibly beautiful islands, mediaeval towns, old villages and lovely bays of Croatia.

Activity level: Trips are designed for flexible, energetic people who like to be active and have a spirit of adventure and a positive attitude.

* if you choose to take the optional detour into Montenegro the distance would be up to 115 kms on that day.

  • Entrance fees to wineries; public ferry tickets; entry to National Parks and other tourist attractions are to be paid on the spot!

Important note on bikes: Cube / Cannodale or similar brand, hybrid bikes, come equipped with: tool bag, lock, spare tyre, repair kit, pump, rack for the panniers, helmet.

Weather: Summers are typically warm and sunny. From May to October temperatures are comfortable for hiking, paddling, and swimming. Rain is always a possibility in Croatia so it is essential to bring adequate rain wear and a jacket in case of inclement weather.

Accommodation: B&B (hotels and small family guesthouses), all accommodations include private bathroom and daily breakfast.

Meet at Dubrovnik airport, transfer along the coast to Orebic (approx. 2.5 hours’ drive from
Dubrovnik airport), stop along the way in Ston for a short break. Remainder of the day free, maybe some recreational / practice bike riding around the vineyards towards Podobucje and Postup.

Orebic is the biggest settlement on Peljesac Peninsula; it offers many shops, restaurants and bars and is considered the center of the Peljesac Riviera. Orebic is also a ferry port for Korcula, Hvar and other islands in vicinity.

Stay in Orebic (3 nights B&B).

Bike ride to Viganj and back (approx. 41 km)
Cycle along the coast via the beach area of Kuciste, turn in the village Viganj and cycle back along sandy beaches to Orebic.

Orebic: wineries, Maritime museum
Viganj: enjoy the beach area, beach bars, wind surfing, Konoba.

Bike ride Orebic – Korcula – Pupnat - Orebic (cycling distance approx. 45 km)
Cycle to Orebic town where you catch the ferry to Korcula ferry port (Domince). From the ferry port cycle in the direction of Korcula town, then along the coast to picturesque Racisce (you will pass by many hidden bays and beaches).

Korcula Island, is not just famous for its association with Marco Polo, who was born in Korcula town in 15th Century, it is well-known for its walled town with narrow streets, Venetian architecture and Mediterranean life style. This green island with many hidden bays and beaches, old villages, clear blue sea is an ideal place for cycling or spending a day to relax and peace.

Korcula Town: Marco Polo museum, town museum.

Bike ride along the Peljesac Peninsula via Potomje to Ston (distance approx. 55 km)
Begin your day with a transfer to the town of Potomje (to avoid narrow and steep part of the road, a distance of approx. 5 km). Cycling then starts in Potomje, through a tunnel that connects the valley with the terraces on the coast where the famous vineyards of Peljesac are located. The road follows the small coastal towns of Trstenik, Zuljana and Putnikovici to Ston. This scenic road has many places where you can stop, enjoy in sightseeing.

Upon arrival to Ston, free time for sightseeing. Ston was a major fort of the Dubrovnik Republic whose defensive walls were regarded as a notable feat of medieval architecture. The town's inner wall measures 890 metres in length, while the Great Wall outside the town has a circumference of 5 km. The walls extend to Mali Ston ("Little Ston"), a smaller town on the northern side of the Peljesac isthmus and the end of the Bay of Mali Ston, notable for its Mari culture.

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Dubrovnik (drive takes approx. 45min). Free time in
Dubrovnik after check in at your hotel.

Dubrovnik is a stunningly intact walled city on the Adriatic Sea coast of the extreme south of Croatia. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, with lot of things to see and do. The prosperity of the city of Dubrovnik was historically based on maritime trade. As the capital of the Republic of Ragusa, the city achieved a high level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries. Dubrovnik became notable for its wealth and skilled diplomacy.

Stay in Dubrovnik (2 nights on B&B)

Transfer during the morning to Gruda in Konavle Valley (drive takes approx. 30-45 min).

Cycling now for two days in Konavle region discovering the northern villages: a loop of approx. 35 km from Gruda along the valley to town and then continue following the road to the villages Pridvorje and Ljuta. Return from Ljuta to Gruda.

The fertile Konavosko polje or Konavle Fields region, surrounded by hills and mountains lies in the far southeast of Dubrovnik, Dalmatia and the Republic of Croatia. There are about thirty picturesque villages that exhibit authentic architecture, surrounded by exceptional vegetation growing on rocky red soil, including lavish groves of pine.

Suggestions (not included in the price)
“Sokol kula” (frontier post and stronghold of the Dubrovnik Republic), Old Franciscan monastery (15th century) in village Pridvorje, water mills on river Ljuta, ethnographic collections and wineries along the road.

Stay in Gruda (2 nights on B&B)

Bike ride from Gruda to Prevlaka, Poljica and Cilipi (cycling distance approx. 65 km or approx. 115 km (if you visit Montenegro and bay of Kotor)

Today you can cycle the other, southern side of the valley. Along the way are wine cellars, or agroturismo places where you can stop and taste some local products. If you plan to have a picnic lunch you can stop at the small shops in Cilipi or buy something for the road in Gruda. After Gruda first bigger place is Cilipi (a few cafe bars, pizzeria, and small market) but here you can also visit Ethno Museum and St, Nicolas church. From Cilipi you continue following the main road to the villages of Radovcici and Popovici, behind these villages there are few beaches (Pendja, Pasjača) - NB. to reach beach you have to follow the many steps as the beaches are situated under the cliffs of Konavle. Or you can simply take the route to the south, cross the border and visit the coastal area of Montenegro. – Passport obligatory!
