The northernmost part of Croatia, the Istrin Peninsula offers a slightly different feel to the rest of the country and due to its position lends itself easily to combining with a tour of Slovenia's "best bits". Starting in the historic town of Pula this route includes the whole of the Istrian Peninsula with its stunning coastlines, nearby beautiful islands, lovely hillside villages packed full of food treasures and some fantastic historic sights. The area of southern and western Slovenia also offers some wonderful locations such as the Postojna Caves, Lake Bled, Predjama Castle and Ljubljana.

Your holiday begins with a smooth transfer service to your hotel in Pula where you have a couple of days to visit the city on foot and using its excellent public transport - this could include the nearby Brijuni Islands. All of the places you are likely to visit in Istria are relatively close to each other so sightseeing time is maximised or you can easily head off the main routes to see more of the countryside. We suggest a maximum of 3 separate locations which would include Pula (either at the start or the end depending upon your flight schedule) plus one further coastal town and one location inland, for example Motovun, particularly if you have an interest in food. Of course, you may also like to include one of the nearby islands such as cres or, our favourite, Krk (accesible via bridge from Rijeka).

Each day's drive is not so far so you have plenty of time to do some sightseeing, walking or take an extended lunch / picnic along the way. The middle section of this holiday is in Slovenia, including a couple of nights in its fabulous and compact capital, Ljubljana, and the incredible Lake Bled and Triglav National Park which offer so much in the way of outdoor activities. On the way back to Croatia we recommend you stop off to visit the caves at Postojna, surely one of the best in Europe. Departure is from Pula to complete your circuit and drop off the car at the airport.
