Marrakech - Imlil - Tizi n'Tamatert - Imenane Valley - Marrakech
Departure from Marrakech around 8.30 in the morning for a 2 hour drive south to the Berber town of Imlil (1740m), set way up in the foothills of the Western High Atlas mountains and a main trailhead. At Imlil take a welcome glass of mint tea at our gite d'etape prior to setting out on a private guided easy ramble for some two hours via winding mule tracks, through the Berber village of Tamatert (1850m) and up to Tizi n'Tamatert (2262m). From here you have a splendid panorama of the surrounding peaks and valleys of Imlil; take a piste trail for another two hours hiking alongside the upper foothills of the Jebel Aksoual (3847m) until you reach Ouaneskra (2100m), to set off towards the north down along the pretty Assif Imenane Valley in the upper foothills of the Oukaimeden Plateau, passing through the Berber hamlets of Tamegguist, Tinerhourine and Ikiss, where your guide will prepare a picnic on a river bank set amongst walnut trees.
Afterwards, ascend through the Tizi n'Aguerssioal (1938m) until you reach the Berber village of Aguerssioual (1600m) where you rejoin your vehicle at around 4pm to take you back over the Gorges to Marrakech by around 6 in the evening, after a day of walking amidst starkly-impressive mountains, cool valleys and welcoming Berber villages.
