This is the classic Morocco self drive itinerary and includes all its impressive Imperial Cities. Starting in Casablanca the route takes you to Rabat, Meknes, Fez and Marrakech with opportunities to visit the Rif and Atlas Mountains along the way. In fact, there are many places you could visit to complement the historic urban sights such as the fabulous Roman ruins at Volubilis, the incredible waterfalls at Ouzoud and the Barbary Apes in the Cedar Forest.
We have many years of experience putting together practical and interesting journeys for our customers and we recommend this route to make the most of your time in this fascinating country. We are happy to discuss any reasonable modifications to tailor-make a holiday to suit your requirements for any or all of the following - number of persons travelling, preferred accommodation type, UK departure airport, overall duration, pre-booked activities and much more.
Important Information
We can easily arrange for this holiday to start and finish in Marrakech or equally to start and finish in Casablanca without increasing the duration if this is more convenient.
City Tours include an English-speaking guide, all transport and entry fees to historic monuments; followed by an exploration of the souks and focal points of the medinas.
Flights available to book with us through a range of airlines, from various UK airports either out to Casablanca (or Rabat) and home from Marrakech or vice versa. Travelling to/from the same airport in Morocco would usually mean adding an extra night at the departure location. If we book your flights this means that your holiday will also be fully ATOL protected.
Prices shown are a guideline "from" (in UK Pounds) and are based on a travelling party of at least 2 adults. Single supplements may need to be applied to the twin/double price and discounts for children (under 12yrs) and/or a 3rd adult sharing a room are available upon request. Quoted prices for individual enquiries will depend upon your chosen accommodation, room availability and dates of travel. We always aim to match a high quality experience with exceptional value for money. Discounts will apply if there are 3 or more people in your travelling party as fixed costs such as transportation and guides will be shared equally between the group.
Based upon 2 persons travelling.
Itinerary
A brief visit to the magnificent Hassan II Mosque in the morning and then take delivery of your hire car at the hotel. Visit the nearby capital of Morocco, Rabat, and then onwards across the plain to the holy town of Moulay Idriss, high up in the Rif Mountains.
NB. if you have time before it closes it would be a good time to visit Volubilis; however, you will also have time in the morning.
Day 3 - visit the fabulous Roman site of Volubilis first thing before the tours arrive; then a short drive down to Meknes for a visit of the old town, including its magnificent gates, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail and the Royal Stables. Towards the end of the day a short drive across to Fez.
Day 4 - full day for sightseeing in Fez (* a half day private guided city tour is included).
Day 5 - drive southwards through the peaceful Mid Atlas region; don't miss a chance to see the Barbary Apes in the Cedar Forest near Azrou along the way. Once through the Mid Atlas you will skirt the northern edge of the High Atlas where we recommend a small detour to visit the stunning waterfalls at Ouzoud.
Day 6 - a choice of sightseeing and routes on this day - a visit to the Berber town of Demnate and a walk besides the natural rock arch is recommended before your onward drive to Marrakech. Drop off hire car at end of day (or earlier if you wish to spend more time exploring Marrakech).
Two full days for sightseeing in Marrakech (* a half day private guided city tour is included).
If you would like to keep the car then you could visit the High Atlas south of Marrakech, such as Ouirgane & Imlil, or head west to the Atlantic coast at Essaouira for a day trip. Alternatively, these places can be visited on an excursion arranged through our local representative, including the option of a guided day hike in the High Atlas foothills.
