About Lake Plav National Park
Prokletije National Park opens a door on to an astonishing ecological treasury, perfect for those looking for adventure. They rise in a Southwest-Northeast axis from the Skadar-Zeta plain to the Bogicevica Massif and all the way to the passes of Čakor and Rugova, in total around 70 km.
Plav is located at the foot of the Prokletije mountain by the springs of the river Lim; it is a region which juts into the border area with Kosovo and Albania and is now Montenegro's fifth national park, thanks to its extraordinary natural resources and assets. Nature has truly gifted this region with such a variety of scenery - Plav abounds with lakes, the most famous being Plavsko Lake, a glacial lake and one of the largest in this region, additionally, Hridsko and Visitorsko Lakes are beautiful mountain lakes and the latter is known for its island. The cultural heritage of Plav includes the Old library, Old Mosque, the Red Tower, the Holy Trinity Church at Brezojevici and the Mosque "Sultania".
The Prokletije mountains (translated as "accursed") are truly off the beaten track but are criss-crossed with many excellent hiking trails, accessible primarily from the traditional village of Gusinje. The highest peak is Zla Kolata at 2,536 m but many more are a challenge to trekkers such as Nedžinat (2,341 m), Čakor (2,046 m), Mokra planina (1,932 m), Haila (2403m) and Mokra gora (2,154 m). The main lake below the town of Plav offers opportunities for boat trips and fishing excursions.
We look forward to being of service.
